URBANRECALL is a long-running collaborative project that translates urban environments into site-specific audiovisual performances. Working across modular audio systems and generative software, our collective records spatial data and ambient frequencies from the cities we move through and processes them into immersive installations responsive to each location.

URBANRECALL began as a prototype in KHM’s Studio B, a neutral institutional space that immediately pushed our collective outward into the city. Over seven iterations across Cologne, London, and online spaces, the audiovisual system evolved from site-responsive performance into a politically charged distributed infrastructure. The sixth iteration, dedicated to the Iranian revolution and the mourning of Zhina (Mahsa) Amini, connected Ali Chakav and Shabnam Azar live from London, transmitting audio, live poetry, and raw data to control generative visuals, lasers, and synthesizers in Cologne. The series expanded into an immersive 3D web-archive realized with Koproduktionslabor Dortmund and supported by NEUSTART Kultur and BBK Bundesverband.
