Ali Chakav, one of the members of the collective, lives and works in London. Ali left his hometown Tehran in 2009 for political reasons and came to Cologne to study at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne. Since 2018, he has been living in London with his partner and later collaborator of urbanrecall Shabnam Azar. As political refugees, it is not easy to find a safe place to live and work because of the radical statements of the Iranian government. urbanrecall as a collective, but also Ali, Joel and Navid as individual artists exchange and discuss their thoughts and ideas via an online platform well before the fall of COVID19.

IKLECTIK Art Lab is located in the middle of London, near the Thames, a 4-star luxury hotel, many offices and Archibishop's Park. It sounds bizarre that IKLECTIK survives in this neighborhood as an independent space founded in 2014 as a platform for contemporary art, experimental music and critical artistic practice. This concept of place reflects urbanrecall's stories: They do not belong to any institution, remain independent and approach their artistic practice with a critical eye.
